The first written mention of Jews in Břeclav dates from the 15th century; a hundred years later, in Břeclav a large Jewish community existed with a synagogue and cemetery. Learned rabbis operated in Břeclav; in the economic sphere, the Kuffner family was well known, who owned a local sugar factory.

About 400 tombstones with prevailing baroque decorations can be found at the Břeclav Jewish cemetery. The cemetery is dominated by the tomb of the Kuffner family near the entry, which – along with the former ceremonial hall and the gravedigger’s house – creates a unique aesthetic whole.
