The National Nature Reserve of Křivé jezero with floodplain forests, floodplain meadows and floodplain lake is situated on the edge of the floodplain of the Thaya (Czech: Dyje) river, today flooded under the Nové Mlýny dams. There are a number of protected and rare animal and plant species (e.g. Squill (Scilla vindobonensis), Fen Violet, Summer Snowflake). An interesting phenomenon is the Graylag Goose nesting in willows, which was a speciality of the floodplain area under the Pálava Hills.
