Lednice-Valtice Area

The Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape is an area delimited by the Thaya River, the Pálava Hills and the Austrian border. It has two centres, Valtice and Lednice, well known with their chateaus and parks.

Between Lednice and Valtice, it is possible to make a visit to a natural park which belongs amongst the world’s best examples of cultural landscapes. It is no wonder that the whole compound of the Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape was included in the list of the UNESCO world cultural and natural heritage in 1996. Since 2003, the landscape has become a part of the Lower Moravia UNESCO biosphere reserve.

The Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape is rich in historical monuments, but you will be pleased also if you are an admirer of scenic beauties. A system of the Lednice ponds is the principal attraction here. The area also includes an important archaeological site called Pohansko. Local wines will not surely disappoint you, because the capital of wine – the town of Valtice – is located in the Lednice – Valtice area. However, you may also taste exquisite wines from Hlohovec or Lednice.

The area of Lednice-Valtice has been becoming an every time more popular place for those who wish to have active holidays. Those will feel happy here who enjoy hiking, cycling or horse riding, and the local fisheries are very popular with those who are fond of fishing.
